(1966), When one thinks of Dharmendra Deol, one automatically sees a romantic star as well as a he-man - a trait that is not quite common in Bollywood heroes. No wonder He is known as 'Garam' Dharam (hot Dharam), in Bollywood. He had the looks of a real gentle man, the masculine body of a he-man and when it came to his films, he had a very humorous touch in his dialog-delivery and the timing, especially. The heroics in his films - Phool Aur PattharJugnu (1973), Raja Jani (1972) and Loafer (1973) - are all quite remarkable and unforgettable. Let's not forget that all these films were big blockbusters in India. And not to forget his quite unbelievable performance he'd shown in the role he played as "Veeru" in Sholay (1975). And who can forget his dialog delivery in this movie, whether it was with Basanti or his famous "suicide" dialog. Though he and his films got nominated for Filmfare awards and though he couldn't get one for his films, he, in the end, has got the best award in his life - "The Life Time Achievement" award in 1997 from Filmfare for his achievements, splendid performance during his times and wonderful career in Bollywood. He was the real action hero of perfection in his days and is still considered to be the best romantic hero and the best romantic pair with the actress 'Hema Malini' , whom he later married. They have 2 children together, Esha and Ahana and he has two sons, 'Sunny Deol (I)' and 'Bobby Deol' from a previous marriage with Prakash Kaur. While Sunny, Deol, and Esha are Bollywood stars in their own right, Ahana is getting set-up to be another Deol Star on the horizon. Dharmendra became a grandfather recently when Bobby and Tanya gave birth to their first-born. And not to forget Dharam's nephew Abhay, who has already made his debut with "Socha Na Tha" with Ayesha Takia. Dharmendra still continues to make appearances in movies every once in a while, and we all know that it will be quite some time before he throws in the towel. |
